Open to all interested students of C.G. Jung, this seminar series will begin with his Analytical Psychology:  Notes of the Seminar given in 1925 edited by William McGuire.

At the seasoned age of 50, Swiss psychiatrist Carl Gustav Jung gave his first formal seminar in English to 26 international students.  Each lecture was recorded, often beginning with a question from a participant that Jung would take up and launch off from to describe the relationship between consciousness and the unconscious, or the nature of psychic energy, or the theory of psychological types, for example.  One begins to feel a part of the group, as if being in the circle itself, engaged in a process of discovery that has deeply personal and collective significance.  One begins to acquire a sense of Jung the person, his place in history, and his works’ relevance for the 21st century.

Our seminar will take up each lecture, first by summarizing what it covers, followed by questions or comments provided by participants.  It is sure to be a stimulating discussion as we put flesh to the bones of analytical psychology and share our associations to the material.

As in past years, the Jungian Studies Seminar Series follows the academic year; winter and spring readings will likely be Psychic Energy (1948;1963) by Esther Harding, and The Memoir of Tina Keller-Jenny: A Lifelong Confrontation with the Psychology of C.G. Jung (2011).  Both Harding and Keller-Jenny attended Jung’s 1925 Seminar.  It is their voices we hear together with Jung’s as we begin our study group.
